Today was the last Song of Solomon class. I can’t believe eleven weeks flew by that fast. I feel like we barely scraped the surface of this beautiful book of the Bible. The girls wrote songs with lyrics taken from SOS and played/sang them for the adult class today. I told London I wanted to put the videos of their songs on YouTube and she about passed out, so I won’t do that. You’ll just have to trust me… they were so beautiful! What deep, deep longings coming from the hearts of ten and eleven year olds. It gives me such hope for this generation the Lord is raising up. I am so proud of them. Now I’m going to start working on the curriculum for a class on “confronting cultural alters: a study of the sermon on the mount” that I’ll be teaching after the first of the year.
In other news, Kevin and I are going to be doing children’s equipping sessions for South Gate (The new name of our church since it merged with another church) on Wed. nights. This was kind of a shocker to us… we didn’t expect it at all. It’s not related to the house of prayer. It will be a different group of kids and a totally different situation, but it’s a good thing. I’m still trying to find out where I fit at South Gate. It’s easy to snuggle into GHOP, but SG is harder to get a grasp on for me. God is doing new and wonderful things in this church… we’re just not sure where we fit into it all. This is a start.
Other than that I’ve been taking care of one sick boy! We took Kiah to the urgent care the other day with a temp of 105.7. Found out he had pnemonia … then today they called and said his strep culture came back positive as well. No wonder he was so miserable. He seemed to be feeling much better yesterday, but we CRABBY today, so he’s still not back to normal.
Speaking of “sick”… I feel SO OLD! Apparently “sick” is the new slang term for cool. I don’t know where I’ve been, but when someone told me they read my book and it was totally SICK, I didn’t know what to make of it. My GHOP tweens explained it to me and I feel much better now. Though I will say I vote AGAINST using the word “sick” to mean anything positive whatsoever.
I have an official website up and running now: www.sarahhanks.net. For all those fans I have, you know.
Actually, things with the book have been going really well. I’ve heard so many great reports already and I just started selling it a week ago. Promoting it is proving to be time consuming and a lot of work, but it’s worth it.
I am so extremely encouraged. I’m seeing an explosion of the spirit of adoption in the people of God. Not just IHOP people, but in the church in general. God is really highlighting this on a massive scale and I’m thrilled with what He’s doing. As for our part in that story, our orientation in on Dec. 8th, then STARS training starts on January 8th and runs for 9 weeks. Then we’ll be trained to foster. Adoptive training is 12 additional hours. There’s other stuff mixed in there… home inspections, CPR class, background checks, etc. I’m excited to actually get moving on this soon. My mom’s excited, but the rest of the family thinks we’re nuts. That’s nothing new, but I can’t seem to get used it that look they give me. There she goes again! Seriously, do you think I can write about adoption and not step forward in it? How can I proclaim a message and not BECOME the message? I don’t want to get bogged down in a pile of excuses.
At any rate, there’s a general update for you. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
